AGM 2020 and Financial statements 2019

Changes to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2020 on 31 March 2020 at 6:00 PM.

Further to the invitation we sent to you last month, and taking into account the recent developments in the UK in respect of the Coronavirus, we have made some changes for the running of this year’s AGM.

Your wellbeing remains an absolute priority. The Government’s advice on social distancing means we have made the decision to conduct the meeting remotely via a conferencing application called Zoom.

You will have the option to either connect using your computer/mobile video, computer/mobile audio or dialling into the meeting by landline phone or mobile phone using the instructions provided in the AGM Agenda.

This is our chance to report back to you as a Board, to hear your views and to gain your approval on such matters as new board members and a proposal from the Board that we should pay a dividend.

More details below:

Coronavirus Contingency Plan

Dear Member,

Due to the Coronavirus, we may need to change our work practice due to reduced staffing or staff working from home.

The rate at which emails are received has significantly increased with more members requesting withdrawals. This increase in emails means that the time we take to respond may increase and hence your withdrawal may take longer than usual.

By far the quickest way of getting a share withdrawal is through the Members Area on the website. If you have yet to register for the Members Area on the website you should do it straight away. You can register here.

Members Area share withdrawals are processed on a daily basis and if submitted before 9 am will show in your bank account the same day or after the next working day. By comparison, email requests for share withdrawals could take up to three working days.

Kind regards,

Oxfordshire Credit Union team

Directors and Volunteers Vacancies

We are currently looking for new Directors and Volunteers to join the Oxfordshire Credit Union (OCU).

Like all credit unions, we depend on the services of unpaid Directors and Committee members to provide strategic direction, ensure legal compliance and represent the membership.

Volunteering is a great way of developing your existing skills or learning new ones. Many people find that volunteering for the credit union helps them to find work or make progress in their careers. Financial, secretarial, marketing, project management and publicity skills are particularly welcome.

Volunteering usually means giving up a few hours each month during the day and evenings. All volunteers receive on the job training and there are usually opportunities for formal training through the Association of British Credit Unions Limited.

If you have some time to spare, and are willing to share your enthusiasm and commitment, please send an email to chair@oxfordshirecreditunion.co.uk stating whether you would like to join the OCU Board or get involved as a volunteer.

Current positions available:

  • Company Secretary (Board position)
  • Director – general (multiple Board positions)
  • Volunteer – general (multiple positions)

What happens next?

One of the current OCU Directors will contact you to discuss the positions and projects you can get involved in.

Thank you for your interest and supporting Oxfordshire Credit Union.

Happy International Credit Union Day!

It’s International Credit Union Day! Today’s the day we celebrate the spirit of the global credit union movement. We also had another reason to celebrate; it was the 70th Anniversary of International Credit Union Day! This year, we thought of a great way to celebrate the good that credit unions around the world are doing; by hearing what our members have to say (yes, you). We asked you to send in some stories of how the credit union has helped you. From the responses, we’ve picked a few of our favourites:

“I needed a month’s rent in advance, in order to move. Luckily I was able to get a loan through credit union using my child benefit. Without this, myself and my children would never have been able to move into our lovely new home.”

“I have been able to take my girls for a holiday due to the little savings I have managed to put aside over the years. I do not think it would have been possible otherwise. I am proud to be a member. I would recommend CU any day.”

“It’s been a great way of saving just a little bit every month, with a standing order. And the credit union are great at just transferring what I need from those savings straight into my bank account – all it takes is a quick email! Great service helping with my cash flow and putting money aside for a rainy day.”

“I have managed to save little by little which I wouldn’t have been able to do with a regular savings account.”

“Would have never saved if it were not for the credit union. Loans are good and interest rate reasonable”

“Very quick and simple service. Highly recommended to others”

“Fantastic service, both with savings and loans”

Hearing some of these stories remind us of why we do what we do. Whether you just joined or have been with us from the beginning, thank you for being a member of Oxfordshire Credit Union. Here’s to another 70 years!

Join Our Board of Directors

We are looking for driven, enthusiastic and innovative people to join our voluntary Board of Directors. The Directors can make a real difference to the sustainable growth and success of Oxfordshire Credit Union. This growth means we can help more people by providing ethical, responsible, affordable loans and safe savings plans.

We’re looking for up to four new Directors, ideally with knowledge and experience of personal financial services. We’re also keen to hear from anyone who has particular experience in the following areas:

  • business development
  • product marketing and promotions
  • charity / social enterprise role

We’re proud of the growth we’ve achieved in only 12 years, providing services to people who live or work in the Oxfordshire area.

With a new team in place, we are enthusiastic and optimistic about embarking on a new growth phase.

Our services are more vital than ever; levels of problem debt and persistent use of high-interest payday loans are increasing dramatically across Oxfordshire. By volunteering your knowledge, your skills and experience, you could help us become the most prominent and reputable “go-to” social lender in the region.

Oxfordshire Credit Union values diversity and promotes equality. We encourage and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.
